So why TechEvents.com.au?

Simple. I found that even between Meetup, Upcoming, CalendarHub and Eventful, they just didn’t list all of the technology events being held in Melbourne. Many groups, event organisers and vendors don’t list their events on third party websites.

TechEvents.com.au doesn’t aim to be yet another calendar service, but rather it aims to be an outlet where several individuals from a variety of groups submit events they hear about or are involved with. Our focus is on making sure we’ve got mix of events that you may not otherwise hear about. We expect the majority of our users will export the events they are interested in directly into their calendar of choice.

It’s still experimental, however we’ve starting marking up all of our events using the hCalendar Microformat, so this is currently already possible from your web browser using various methods. If you want to play around with Microformats, the easiest method and the one we recommend would be using the Firefox plugin “Operator” as shown below.

We provide email updates where you will receive no more than one email per day. If multiple items have been posted, they will be consolidated into a single email.

Our Twitter feed can be found at http://twitter.com/au_techevents.

We also have an already popular RSS feed. If you use an RSS reader, simply point it at http://www.techevents.com.au/feed/.

This is a work-in-progress, and only early days, but we hope you find the website useful nevertheless.
